How to spot a dating scam before it costs you.

Scams often begin with warmth and urgency. The goal is not to become suspicious of everyone — it is to notice patterns before you share money, documents or private information.

01

They move too fast

Intense declarations, constant messaging and pressure to become exclusive can be used to create trust before a request arrives.

02

They cannot meet or video call

Distance happens, but repeated excuses, changing stories and refusal to verify their identity deserve caution.

03

There is always a money problem

Emergency travel, medical bills, investments, parcels and account problems are common pretexts. Do not send money.

04

They ask for private documents

Never share Aadhaar, passport, bank details, one-time passwords or intimate images with a dating contact.

Use the platform tools: block, report and preserve evidence. If you have already lost money or shared sensitive details, contact your bank and local cybercrime support promptly.
